Starting in 2018 and ending in Spring 2019, Remode Your Way is an upcycling fashion project for women from migrant, refugee and ethnic minority communities.

Over the course of a year we will run free weekly drop-in sessions where participants have the opportunity to learn a range of sewing and dressmaking skills. These drop-in sessions will be taken by our workshop leader Fernanda; a fashion designer and dressmaker from Chile. Those attending will be guided and supported by Fernanda, in creating their own outfits using pre-loved and unwanted fabrics and clothes. Participants will then have the opportunity to showcase their creations in our upcoming fashion show on Saturday April 6th 2019.

Based in our studio at Out of The Blue these workshops will be held every Thursday from 10-1pm with all material and equipment provided.  These workshops are free and can be attended on a weekly or drop in basis.

We welcome everyone, from complete beginners to experienced sewers. Remode Your Way is all about celebrating multicultural diversity and building new skills together, in a sustainable and fashionable way!

If you are interested in taking part (both volunteers and participants) in this project please follow us or get in touch through Facebook or by emailing remodecollective@gmail.com.

Main aims of the project

This project is all about celebrating multicultural diversity and building new skills together, in a sustainable and fashionable way.  By teaching participants fundamental sewing as well as dressmaking and upcycling skills, we hope to help contribute towards the growth of social networks within Edinburgh as well as raising the awareness of environmental factors associated with fashion and textiles.

In addition, Remode Your Way promotes and facilitates access to volunteering opportunities both within the project and Remode Collective in general. Based on our previous experience, volunteering is an important means of building confidence and allowing people the opportunity to explore new potential career prospects. Those interested in volunteering will have the opportunity to assist with both the project and fashion show.

Target communities

Based in Edinburgh Remode Your Way works with women from migrant and refugee community groups around the city.

Vision

Remode Collective’s overall vision is to establish a multicultural community of crafters, designers, seamstresses and tailors that come together to learn from each other. Promoting a sustainable and ethical use of skills and resources, it is through projects and community events like this that we strive to do this.
